The Court granted a writ of certiorari to review the court of appeals' decision in Ralph v. McLaughlin, 428 S.C.320, 834 S.E.2d 213 (Ct. App. 2019).

Joseph Bowers was convicted of voluntary manslaughter, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. The Court granted a writ of certiorari to review the court of appeals' decision. State v. Bowers, 428 S.C. 21, 832 S.E.2d 623 (Ct. App. 2019). The Court will determine whether the court of appeals erred by reversing Bowers' convictions on the basis the trial court's jury instruction on mutual combat was prejudicial.
