This case involves whether a self-employed contractor is a statutory employee under S.C. Code Ann. §42-1-130 and therefore barred from pursuing an independent tort action. The contractor provided a Certificate of Liability Insurance Coverage to a higher tier contractor displaying his name as a covered employee. The primary issue is whether the contractor affirmatively elected to become a statutory employee and therefore barred from tort action.

This case involves whether an automobile liability insurance policy should be reformed to include UM/UIM coverage or whether a meaningful offer was made and declined. The main issue is whether an insurance application form, which is not fully completed pursuant to S.C. Code Ann. section 38-77-350, may be supplemented by oral discussions in order to provide a meaningful offer under section 38-77-160.

The Post and Courier filed a FOIA request seeking access to 911 tapes the City of North Charleston possessed regarding the shooting death of Eric Snowden. The City of North Charleston refused the request because the tapes were to be used in an upcoming lynching trial. The Post and Courier filed a declaratory judgment action seeking access to the tapes and the circuit court denied access. The Post and Courier appeals.
