Judge Kenneth Earl Johns, Jr. was born on October 4, 1966 in Hampton, SC to Kenneth Earl and Juanita Burrell Johns. In 1969, the family moved to Oconee County where Judge Johns has been a resident of the area since that time. Judge Johns is the father of three children. He and his family are members of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Walhalla.
Judge Johns was graduated from Walhalla High School in 1984. He received an Associate of Arts degree from Anderson College in 1986, where he served as Student Body President. Judge Johns received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a concentration in Public Management from the University of South Carolina at Spartanburg in 1989.
After college, Judge Johns returned to Oconee County and began work in the office products industry where he was an operating partner in a local small business. In the year 2000, he chose a career change and up until his election on November 2, 2010, Judge Johns worked as a South Carolina licensed funeral director and insurance agent.
In 1991, Judge Johns was elected to Walhalla City Council, serving two terms as Mayor Pro Tempore. In 1995, he was elected Mayor of Walhalla serving two terms. In 2000, Judge Johns was elected to represent the people of District 2 on the Oconee County Council. In 2007, he was re-elected to Walhalla City Council serving as Mayor Pro Tempore until December 31, 2010.
Judge Johns civic involvement, both past and present, includes leadership positions on the Oconee County Library Board, Walhalla Chamber of Commerce, Walhalla Oktoberfest Board of Directors, Walhalla Rotary Club, Walhalla Sertoma Club, and United Way.
His hobbies include following the University of South Carolina Gamecocks and spending time on Lake Keowee and Edisto Beach with his family.
