The Supreme Court of South Carolina

RE: Waiver of Distance Learning Limitations for Magistrates and Municipal Judges

ORDER

As required by Rule 510, SCACR, magistrates and municipal judges shall submit their continuing legal education (CLE) sworn compliance report for the term beginning July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020 to the Commission on Legal Education and Specialization by July 15, 2020. Based on the continued development of Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the advice from the Centers for Disease Control and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control urging against public gatherings, this Court finds it appropriate to waive the restriction in section (c)(8)(C) of Rule 510, SCACR, stating magistrates and municipal judges may obtain no more than six credit hours of CLE via online or telephonic courses.

Effective immediately, magistrates and municipal judges may earn all or any portion of the required hours of CLE credit for the 2019-2020 annual reporting year through online or telephonic programs.
